IVCC Adjunct Faculty Development Academy (AFDA)

IVCC is pleased to offer this weekly, semester-long, fully online professional development opportunity to adjunct faculty.

Adjunct faculty who successfully complete AFDA will be able to:

  1. Describe confidence levels in their teaching and how students learn in their classes at the start of the academy
  2. Use and/or adapt ideas and strategies related to teaching and learning from Academy content
  3. Reflect on and articulate what they will keep doing, change, or stop doing in teaching and learning practice as a result of the Academy
  4. Compare/contrast pre- and post-Academy assessments, reflecting on and articulating a plan for future semesters

What participants said about AFDA:

  • There was so much useful information covered.
  • It was all very insightful.
  • Such a beneficial course with important information that I will be referring back to in the future.

AFDA is a fully-online program.  After you register, you will receive information about logging in to Magna Commons to access Academy content.  Each week you will receive an email about a Monday Morning Mentor topic.  You may access the Monday Morning Mentor video and supplemental materials at your leisure.  You may also log back into Mentor Commons to review the video and materials if you wish.  You will be asked to begin the Academy by doing a self-assessment of your teaching.  You will also be asked to share reflections on what you are learning and taking away from the videos and materials at periodic points in the program.  We encourage you to share your experiences with your colleagues and dean as you work through and reflect on the Academy topics.  To view the list of topics, click here.

There are no in-person or synchronous online requirements for the Academy.  You may access the Monday Morning Mentor content in your own time each week.  You will be asked to complete the self-assessment and the reflections by specific deadlines.  You'll be using Brightspace for the assessment and the reflections.

The Academy begins Monday, January 22, 2024.  The last Monday Morning Mentor will be sent the week of May 6, 2024.  Successful completers can anticipate a recommendation for a salary increase if all the Academy tasks are completed.

Be sure to REGISTER no later than January 18, 2024 by emailing Mary_Smith@ivcc.edu
