Follow these steps to add and align Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs) to assignments, discussions, and quizzes in Brightspace.

Former Blackboard users:  Old assessment rubrics may have copied from Blackboard to Brightspace.  If you have old ILO assessment rubrics in your course, please delete them; they are no longer used or needed.

Assess the Same Outcome Multiple Times with Multiple Methods

In Brightspace, you may assess the same outcome multiple times using multiple methods.  If an outcome is assessed more than once, the reported assessment result is "Most Common" by default. This method selects the most frequent result (or the statistical mode) from a specific number of assessments (you set the number or use the default of 5) or all assessments in the course.  When assessing the same outcome multiple times, the default settings for the result are:

  • Most Common: The most frequently achieved result is reported.
  • Based on 5 most recently assessed activities.
  • Using the Highest Level result when more than one result is frequent.
  • Using the Highest Attempt on a multiple attempt activity.

Unless you have a desired, more complex schema for results when assessing outcomes multiple times or with multiple methods, we recommend the default Master View Settings in Brightspace.
