Accommodations

Accommodations at IVCC

Accommodations are supports that help students gain equitable access to materials or the environment.  They are individualized based on student need and are determined via the interactive process between CAN staff, students, and instructors.

Disability Law

Individuals with disabilities and/or medical/mental health conditions who attend or plan to attend IVCC may need reasonable accommodations and/or auxiliary aids in order to have equal access to programs and services. IVCC is committed to responding to the needs of students with disabilities as outlined in the Section 504 of The Rehabilitation Act and the The Americans With Disabilities Act

Information for New Students

In order to receive accommodations, a student must notify the Center for Accessibility and Neurodiversity to initiate the process and to determine eligibility for accommodations.

The first step is completing the APPLICATION FOR SERVICES VIA THE AIM PORTAL. Do your best to complete the information understanding that we will review it at your intake meeting.  Don't worry about uploading documentation if you're asked to do that.  We will assist with that process .

Once you've submitted an application you must set up an intake appointment so a CAN staff member can get to know you as a learner, assess your needs, and determine eligibility for accommodations.  Please email can@ivcc.edu, call 815-224-0634 or use the CAN Bookings app to set up your appointment.

Information for Returning Students

If you are a returning student and you need to send accommodation letters to instructors, please follow the steps below:

1.  Login to the AIM Portal

2.  If you've forgotten your login credentials you can:  1) contact CAN to get your username, if needed, or 2)  use the Reset My Password link on the left menu to reset your password if you know your username but have forgotten your password

3.  On your home screen, you should see your current classes listed.  Click on the class or classes you want to use accommodations in, then click the Continue to Customize Your Accommodations button

4.  You will be taken to a screen where each class you've requested accommodations in is listed, along with accommodations you've been approved for.  Click the accommodations you want to use in each class.  Please remember to carefully consider which accommodations truly apply to each class.  For example, a formula sheet is likely not needed in a speech class.  Or, generally speaking, extended test time is not applicable in clinical course settings.

5.  Once you've reviewed your accommodation choices, click the Submit Your Accommodation Requests button.  A letter will be emailed to both you and your instructor.  Check your inbox to be sure you see the letter and review it.  Also email your instructor to make sure they've received theirs.  Some accommodations have to be reviewed before being emailed (example - flexible attendance/participation).  If you don't see a letter in your inbox immediately, check again within 24 hours.  If you still don't see it, contact CAN.

*Important Note - Instructor Requests a PDF of Your Letter(s)*:

On the very top of your dashboard you will see an area titled Printing Faculty Notification Letter in PDF.  Select your class from the drop down menu, click Generate PDF.  A PDF of your letter will be sent to your download file on your device.  You can upload or attach this PDF into the area your instructor has designated.
