Illinois Valley Community College in partnership with Nell’s Woodland, a nonprofit on a 58-acre preserve 2000 Alexis Ave. on the north side of Ottawa will offer youth and Intergenerational Summer Painting Retreats with classes led by Lucy Schmidt.

The IVCC Youth Summer Retreat is offering two options for ages eight and up, on Wednesday, July 19. Summer Camp Fire Painting (ID 9584) 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. will guide children in a step-by-step process creating an outdoor campfire painting. Dreamcatcher Canvas Painting (ID 9576) from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. will provide a guided instructions on painting native dream catchers. Participants are asked to bring a snack, bottle of water and wear clothing conducive for painting. Cost of each program is $35.

The Intergenerational Summer Retreat painting classes for ages 13 and older may opt for registration and attendance with an adult over the age of 18. There will be two painting opportunities in July. The first class, Monarch Butterfly Acrylic Painting (ID 9751) is on Tuesday, July 11 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Participants will follow along learning a step-by-step process toward the creation of acrylic landscape painting of a monarch butterfly perched on a flower.

Woodland Deer Acrylic Painting (ID 9752) is the second and final offering in the intergenerational painting series is on Wednesday, July 26 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Participants will create a painting of a deer in the woods and select from 25 different colors to customize the painting. All supplies are included in both sessions and the cost for each session is $39.
