High school, college art show opens at IVCC
Sculptures, pottery, drawings, paintings, photographs and other artwork created by high school and college artists will be on display from April 13 to April 24 at Illinois Valley Community College’s annual Art Show. The show is open to the public.
Artwork will fill the hallways outside E-208, the Humanities and Fine Arts Division office, and a few select pieces will be displayed in the main campus lobby.
Submissions will be judged for Best-in-Show in both 2D and 3D categories across high school and college divisions and the public will vote for the People’s Choice award. Winning art pieces will be displayed in the Student Life Space following an awards reception and ceremony for artists and their families on April 17. The ceremony begins at 5 p.m. in the Student Life Space.
In addition to IVCC and art gear prizes, a full-year tuition waiver will be awarded to an incoming freshman, and one IVCC student’s artwork will be purchased for the College’s permanent collection.
Local high schools represented include La Salle-Peru, Putnam County, St. Bede Academy, Ottawa, DePue, Woodland, Fieldcrest, and Streator.
Joining IVCC art instructor Shannon Slaight as a show judge will be artist Matthew Adams, curator at Prairie Arts Council in Princeton.
