Foundation names 21st Century Scholar

OCTOBER 7, 2025

Hailey Larsen, of Ottawa, was named the Illinois Valley Community College Foundation 21st Century Scholar at a ceremony at Senica’s Oak Ridge on Sept. 25. She was honored along with three finalists at the 19th Annual 21st Century Scholars Society dinner.

The daughter of Devon and Stephanie, Larsen plans on studying to become an Aesthetician Nurse Practitioner.

“Thanks to the support I have received from this scholarship, I feel more prepared and motivated to take the next steps in this journey. I am excited for what lies ahead and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the lives of others,” Larsen said.

In her acceptance speech for the $4,000 award, Larsen expressed her heartfelt gratitude. “As I pursue a career in the medical field, I know there will be challenges ahead. But receiving this award not only eases the financial burden—it also opens doors to opportunities I may not otherwise have had. It allows me, and many others like me, to focus fully on our studies and lay the foundation for a bright and impactful future.”

To qualify for these scholarships, students need a minimum 3.5 GPA, as well as extensive college involvement, and community service. Other scholars were also recognized that evening.

Excellence award winners receiving $2,500 each were: Kambri Fisher of Tiskilwa, Eleanor Radtke of Peru, and Danica Scoma of Utica.

Merit award winners receiving $1,000 each were: Isabella Argubright of LaSalle, Allison Kubiak of LaSalle, Bhawna of Ottawa, Maya Zeman of Ottawa and Nathanial Hansen of LaSalle.

The 21st Century Scholars Society was established in 2007 to honor and reward IVCC’s most promising second-year students. It has awarded more than $260,000 to 221 students, including $16,500 to nine scholars this year.

The Society is made up of generous members who each contribute $500 annually and meets once a year to hear the stories of the students that it has helped.

“The 21st Century Scholars Society is more than a gathering, it is a celebration of potential, where students share their journeys and donors witness the real impact of their generosity,” said Tracy Beattie, Executive Director of the Foundation at IVCC. “It is truly a memorable evening for all.”
