NEW! Sports Officiating
Do you have a desire to help develop young athletes and coaches, serve your community by filling a critical shortage and earn extra income? Become a Sports Official! This exciting new series will provide you with the knowledge of the fundamentals of sports officiating, rules and regulations specific to five sports, and will prepare you to successfully pass the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) exam. All classes will be held on the IVCC Main Campus, Oglesby. This series includes 5 sessions of required classroom instruction covering basic fundamentals including:

• Officials Philosophy
• Psychology of Officiating
• Personal Fitness for Officials
• Managing Professional Responsibilities
• The Profession of Officiating

Sport specific instruction, for football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball
will cover:

• Officiating Techniques and Mechanics
• Rules Explanation and Interpretation
• Practical Experience

The five session Basic Fundamentals course is required prior to completion of the sport specific courses. Students may choose one, two, three, four or all five of the sport specific sessions. After completing the class, students must take the IHSA exam in their sport(s) of interest. Cost of IHSA exam registration is $70. However, students completing this course can register at the discounted rate of $35. Licensing will be further discussed in class. The following textbook is required for this course: Successful Sports Officiating, American Sport Education (2nd edition) and is included in the course fee. Each student is required to provide their
own whistle.

The number of continuing education hours (CEs) is contingent upon the number of classes a student takes. Ten CEs will be issued for completion of the fundamentals course. Two CEs for each sport specific course.
