May 2009 Board Meeting Report

Plans were discussed for the proposed $30 million Community Technology Center at Wednesday’s monthly meeting of the Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees.

Following State House and Senate passage of a $29 billion capital development bill last week, IVCC stands to receive $23 million in state funding for the 74,000-square-foot building. The bill is awaiting Gov. Pat Quinn’s signature.

The college has already raised more than $5 million toward its $7 million match for the building to house CNC/manufacturing, industrial maintenance, CAD/drafting, HVAC, electronics and industrial electricity, networking and adult education.

The building will also be home to Continuing Education, The Business Training Center, admissions, financial aid, counseling, career services, cashier’s office and Project Success.

In addition, the initiative includes replacement of east campus temporary buildings and would allow movement of programs into areas left vacant by departments moving into the CTC.

The project’s steering committee is hosting focus group meetings to secure district-wide input on a facility that could be built within two years.

In other business, the board approved the hiring of Dr. Lori E. Scroggs of Princeton for the newly created position of Vice President for Planning and Institutional Effectiveness. Scroggs is a former IVCC psychology instructor, Social Science Division chair, Director of Development and trustee.

She comes to IVCC from Bradley University’s Department of Educational Leadership and Human Development where she prepared students for leadership roles in the nonprofit sector.

The board also approved:

  • The $13,695 purchase of 12 sets of Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) for the electronics program from Complete Industrial & Electrical Supply of Peru.
  • The $70,500 purchase of 100 Dell computers for three student areas. The upgrades are part of a plan to replace student computers every four years.

  • The retirement request of Gloria J. Bouxsein, Dean of Health Professions and Director of Nursing, effective Dec. 21, 2009.

Major components of the plan include a $179,000 wireless network expansion, $190,000 for a document imaging system, $81,000 to replace 90 employee computers, and $66,000 to replace 50 student computers and upgrade Graphic Arts Lab’s Macintosh computers.
