July 2008 Board Meeting Report

Cheryl Roelfsema, interim vice-president for business services and finance/treasurer, presented the tentative fiscal year 2009 budget to the Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees on Wednesday night.

The IVCC board adopted a resolution approving the tentative budget for fiscal year 2009 and authorized the publication of notice of the public hearing.

"The college has made every effort to allocate resources wisely. The administration has prepared this budget mindful of the need to support and enhance our educational programs and services. As an Academic Quality Improvement Program institution, we continue to analyze and improve both our programs and services and maintain our position as a quality educational institution," stated Roelfsema.

The final budget will be submitted for approval at the Aug. 27 board meeting.

President David Decker of Franklin University notified the board that two IVCC students were recently bestowed baccalaureate degrees through the Community College Alliance Program. Robert Gibson completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology and Mike Schmitz completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. IVCC has had 40 graduates from Franklin University since joining the alliance in 1999.

In other business the board approved:

  • Stipends for the pay periods of May 31 and June 14;
  • The appointment of Jeffrey Spanbauer, as a history instructor;
  • The appointment of Christopher Herman, as the director of student support services/Project Success; and accepted the resignation of David Gordon, economics instructor.
