UPDATE ON STATUS OF BOARD EVALUATION INSTRUMENT AND PROCESS

More feedback on the board evaluation instrument and process is needed.  Dr. Scroggs will present a revised timeline at the January 28, 2009 board meeting.  Mr. Wilcoxson would like individual evaluations considered versus each member evaluating the Board as a whole.

DISCUSSION OF TRENDS AND IMPLICATIONS FROM THE 2008 ENVIRONMENTAL SCAN

The members of the staff conducting the environmental scan were commended for a job well done.  It was suggested not to lose sight of surfacing trends that did not make the core trend list.  The trend identified by community leaders that stated warehousing and logistics will grow and manufacturing will decline was not agreed upon by everyone.  The relationship between fluctuation of employment and enrollments is not always correct.  The statement that Illinois Valley has a relatively low appreciation for education is based on the number of people with degrees.  In reality, there may be a low percentage of people with degree attainment, but this does not mean they do not appreciate education.   There was consensus to strike this comment.  There was great community participation and the results of the environmental scan will be shared with the community by placing it on the College website.

The meeting adjourned at 6:08 p.m.
