Registration underway for IVCC’s Get Set college readiness program
Registration for Illinois Valley Community College’s popular college readiness program, Get Set, is underway. The two-day program will take place July 28 and July 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in room CTC-125 at the Oglesby campus.
The Get Set program is for students new to college. It familiarizes them with campus technology, support resources, and college expectations, and they will also learn ways to manage their wellbeing and will explore careers in an interactive session using virtual reality technology.
In her years of teaching Get Set, Tina Hardy, coordinator of the Center for Accessibility and Neurodiversity, discovered the program she had initiated as a transition to college for students with learning differences appealed to a wider audience. Hardy and Ashley Carls, who teaches a college readiness program at Ottawa Township High School, will co-teach this year’s Get Set.
“This year’s streamlined two-day program still focuses on skills and readiness that are essential in college success, including technology skills, time management and strategies, college readiness, and connecting to resources and to other students,” said Hardy.
Faculty will also participate in a panel session to explain academic expectations and students will take a guided walk around campus to find their classrooms.
Participants are encouraged to apply by July 20 so that organizers can plan accordingly. For more information and the link to register, visit https://www.ivcc.edu/readysetgo/index.php.
Organizers will contact applicants prior to the start of the class.
