Illinois Valley Community College is taking steps to streamline transfers to four-year baccalaureate programs by renewing a transfer agreement guarantee (TAGs) with a premier state university.

The first agreement, to be completed with University of Illinois Chicago, was presented to the IVCC Board of Trustees Tuesday and the College is optimistic for the creation of similar articulation agreements with up to 30 in-state and out-of-state universities that are desired transfer destinations for IVCC graduates.

Students agree to successfully complete community college courses and meet academic requirements in return for guaranteed admission to the university. Additionally, they may need to meet specific program requirements to be accepted into the program they plan to major in.

“TAGs give students a defined pathway to their ultimate goal of a university education and a degree, and their journey starts as soon as they register at IVCC. They tailor their community college schedule to earn credits they know will count toward their university degree while saving money on tuition and expenses,” said Transfer Coordinator Wayne Duerkes. 

In other action, the Board:

• Authorized the College’s annual match of $10,000 to the TRIO program (Project Success).
• Received final summer graduation figures:185 graduating students earned a total of 231 degrees and certificates, including 27 Associate in Arts degrees, 26 Associate in Science degrees, 18 Associate in Applied Science degrees, one Associate in Engineering Science degree and 159 certificates of completion. By comparison, in Summer 2025, a total of 157 students graduated with 178 degrees and certificates.
• Renewed an agreement with the Oglesby Police Department to supply a school resource officer to the College.
• Learned of the resignation of Kathryn Teason, CMA Program Coordinator.
