60th annual commencement set for May 16

Illinois Valley Community College’s 60th Annual Commencement Ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, in the gymnasium. More than 200 students will receive their degrees or certificates during the event.

Zulma Guzman, a 2019 graduate who is an assistant vice president at Bank of America, will be the featured speaker. Guzman's foundation for life and first taste of finance came as she watched her parents operate a family restaurant in La Salle. She has been active in initiatives that empower women entrepreneurs and has been featured along with other Latina leaders in “Hispanic Stars Rising Vol. V” and “Today’s Inspired Young Latina, Vol IV” anthologies.

The ceremony also will include remarks from incoming Student Trustee Jacy Miller and outgoing Student Trustee Danica Scoma, as well as IVCC President Dr. Tracy Morris. McKinzie Tarbox will also read her winning Paul Simon Contest Essay.
