Web Browsers

Fax Free Online

You may fax up to 3 pages with a cover page, five times a day with this service. It allows you to upload a word DOC or a PDF.

Security Software

It is recommended that you install only one security package on your computer. When more than one is installed, they can conflict and cause issues with your system. Note that this software is for Windows only.



Compression Software


Modern web browsers already have built-in plug-ins for most files that you will need to access. However, if you are on a web site that requires a plug-in that is not installed, you can download the files from one of these sites.

Office Viewers / Converters / Alternatives

Converters enable you to open files created by people using different versions of your Office programs.

Find the appropriate converter for the version of the Office program on your computer.


Viewers enable people who don't have Office programs to see your work. Simply provide them with the appropriate viewer along with your files.


LibreOffice is a free and open source package that is a complete alternative to Microsoft Office. It is cross-platform and can be installed on Windows, OS X, and Linux and is compatible with all other major office suites. It is currently loaded on all computers in the Learning Commons.

The current price for Office 365 is $69.99/year for the personal edition and $99.99/year for the home edition. The software includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher and Access.
