Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate

The Certified Nursing Assistant curriculum consists of one 8 credit hour course (ALH 1214) which includes lecture, college laboratory practice, and clinical experience in long-term care facility. The CNA course is offered twice a semester in an 8 week format. Day and evening classes are available and the course is offered during the summer session.

The Certified Nursing Assistant Program is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health. A grade of "C" or above in each course is required in order to sit for the state licensure examination.

Admission to the Certified Nursing Assistant Program does not follow the usual college schedule. Starting dates are announced in the yearly IVCC Fall and Spring/Summer Course Schedule and area newspapers three to four times a year. Certified Nurse Assistant status is required for admission to the professional registered and/or practical nurse program.

Effective Fall of 2014, a Reading placement test is required to enroll in IVCC’s Certified Nursing Assistant course, ALH1214. An ACT Reading sub score of 18 or higher will waive this requirement.
