The Journalism Department prepares students who wish to pursue careers in mass communication and journalism through traditional coursework and through experiential learning.

Courses encourage students to develop introductory skills in interviewing, news gathering, writing and editing as well as gain an understanding of the history and ethical responsibilities of the mass media. Students can practice skills through the student newspaper, the IV Leader, and through internships in the field.

Journalism promotes skillful communication and critical thinking, which encourages students to become lifelong learners as well as informed consumers of the mass media.

The mission of the IVCC Journalism Department is to prepare students to become skillful, effective, ethical, and responsible communicators.
