Blackboard Parent Child Courses
Instructors who teach multiple sections of the same course may prefer to manage those sections through a single master/parent course with associated child courses.
In a Parent/Child
- Instructors create and maintain content only in the master/parent class.
- Child courses are marked as unavailable, and are managed through the parent course.
- Students will see the child class section number in the Blackboard course list when entering the course the student will see the parent course content.
- Text book resources should be connected in the parent class.
- Comply with the IVCC Guidance on Complying with FERPA in Distance Learning.
Setting up a Parent/Child Class
- Parent child courses are not created through the Blackboard integration.
- Parent courses are setup by request, only.
- To set up parent/child courses, email your request to Bob Hunter. Be sure to include the Course and Section numbers of all the sections to be combined.
- Parent/child setups cannot be made after students submit work in a course site. Parent/child setups cannot be made after students submit work in a course site.
- Section-specific sites created by the integration between Colleague and Blackboard cannot be made parent sites.
- The content from another Blackboard course can be copied to the parent course during the parent/child set up. To request a course copy include the complete Blackboard course name to be copied to the request.
