Illinois Valley Community College's Automotive facility is equipped with the latest up-to date equipment. General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Honda have donated new vehicles and components which allow our students to work on the latest automotive technology.

Students spend about 25% of the time in the classroom and about 75% of the time in the shop.  A thorough understanding of how each system works, how to diagnose system problems and proper repair procedures are critical to students becoming successful
automotive technicians.

Today's automotive service industry requires technicians to be educated in automotive electricity and electronics. Automotive technicians must be able to quickly diagnose, service and repair today's complex vehicles. 

Illinois Valley Community College has provided Quality Automotive Training for the past 20 years.

Students in the Automotive Technology Program work on live vehicles about 80% of the time. Students work on live cars in a service shop setting giving them a better understanding and better preparing them to enter the automotive repair industry.

The Automotive Technology program is Master Certified by NATEF.

The Program is certified in: Engine Repair, Engine Performance, Automatic Transmissions, Electrical Systems, Brake Systems, Steering and Suspension Systems and Air Conditioning and Heating.

The Automotive program is constantly being updated. New information, technology, repair techniques and diagnostic equipment is constantly being added to automotive courses every semester.

The Automotive Technology Program has a separate lab set-up for Engine and Transmission Rebuilding.

Students in ATO 1210 - Basic Gas Engines are encouraged to bring in an engine of their own to rebuild.

Both Automotive instructors are ASE Master Certified Automotive Technicians and ASE Advanced Engine Performance Certified.
The instructors are continually updating their knowledge by attending General Motors, Ford, Chrysler and aftermarket training.
