All students will start with a 20 question Sentence Skills exam. This test will ask two types of questions. The first type is sentence correction questions, which require an understanding of sentence structure. These questions ask students to choose the most appropriate word or phrase to substitute for the underlined portion of the sentence. The second type is construction shift questions. These ask that a sentence be rewritten according to the criteria shown while maintaining essentially the same meaning as the original sentence. The Sentence Skills test will place students into Adult Basic English, Basic English I (ENG 0800), Basic English II (ENG 0900), English Composition I (ENG 1001), Written Communication Skills for Business, Industry and Technology (ENG 1205) or be asked to complete a writing sample to determine placement.
