IVCC Professor Receives Certificate of Commendation
Illinois Valley Community College Professor of English, Kimberly Radek was recently recognized by the Sigma Kappa Delta Board of Directors for her ten years of service to Sigma Kappa Delta. Radek received a certificate of commendation as the sponsor of the Mu Alpha chapter at IVCC.
"We applaud Ms. Radek’s dedication and steadfastness in keeping Mu Alpha Chapter active and thriving during this long period of time. Her commitment to Illinois Valley Community College as well as SKD is commendable and she deserves the recognition and gratitude President Corcoran will bestow upon her with the certificate," stated Dr. Sheila H. Byrd, executive director of the English Honor Society.
Sigma Kappa Delta was formed under the auspices of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society serving four-year universities. Sigma Kappa Delta was created April 21, 1996, in Chicago. The organization was incorporated in 1996 in the state of Missouri as a not-for-profit educational entity. Its central purpose is to confer distinction upon outstanding students of the English language and literature in undergraduate studies. Sigma Kappa Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature.
"We have been very fortunate to have had Professor Radek share her outstanding talents with our English language and literature students in IVCC's chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta. The guidance she has provided to this group for the past ten years has been invaluable to our college and community," said Sue Isermann, interim vice-president for academic affairs.
The name Sigma Kappa Delta comes from the Greek letters representing the first letter of each of the words that form the official motto of sincerity, knowledge and design SKD. Through the work of chapters on the campuses of two-year institutions throughout the United States, Sigma Kappa Delta provides exceptional students opportunities for advancing the study of language and literature, for developing skills in creative and analytical writing and for meeting other outstanding scholars and professionals in the discipline of English.
