Taylor Awards Five New Scholarships for Students to Attend IVCC

High school seniors or home schooled students planning on attending Illinois Valley Community College next fall for the first time can apply for a new scholarship being offered by IVCC alumnae Dian and William Taylor of Winnetka.

The Taylors have created five new scholarships worth up to $2,000 to each recipient.

"We are looking to help promising, high-potential students," said Bill Taylor.

The annual scholarships are directed toward full-time incoming freshmen who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Students must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative high school GPA. Consideration will be given to students who are first-generation (parents do not have a four-year college degree) and/or have financial need.

A recommendation letter from a high school instructor, counselor or administrator or a community member is required with the application. The letter should address the student’s character and potential.

Recipients will receive $500 each semester toward tuition expenses for two years as long as they maintain a 3.0 grade point average in transfer courses.

Special applications for the Taylor are available in the Foundation office (C202) or under Scholarships at www.ivcc.edu/foundation. The application deadline is May 23.

The scholarships were announced recently at the reception honoring Bill Taylor as IVCC’s 2008 Alumnus of the Year. For information call Donna Swiskoski at (815) 224-0551.
