Week of 6/13

   This week's assignments

• Read Chapter 1 (p. 1-23)

• View the PowerPoint Presentation

• Complete the Self-Assessment

• Complete Journals 1 and 2

• Post a Welcome message

1.    Read Chapter 1 (p. 1-23)

This is pretty self-explanatory! The reading for this class is not as intense as for other classes. As you read through, you can read fairly quickly, as long as you pick up the main concepts, terms, and ideas. Take notes as needed.

2.    View the PowerPoint Presentation

For each chapter, there is a PowerPoint presentation. Click to advance the slides (sometimes it takes 2 clicks). Take notes as needed. If you feel the need to print the presentation out, DO NOT print out the slides!! Use this document.

3.    Complete the Pre-Assessment by 6/18

This pre-assessment is found on pages 8 and 9 in your book. You can take this assessment online or do it in the book and score it manually. If you choose to do it in the book, please photocopy it to turn in.

• Go to the website and select "On Course 4/e" from the list of textbooks and then "Take this assessment before the course." 
• Answer all of the questions by selecting the answer that best describes you and click "Assess Answers."
• You will be given a summary of your answers. Look through them and answer the two questions at the bottom of the page. 
• When you are finished, select the option "Print Results" and follow the directions.
• Turn in this printed page with your assignments.
• If this link does not work, contact the instructor immediately. 

4.   Complete Journals 1 and 2 by 6/18

The journals are a very important part of this class. 

• Before beginning, review the section on journals in your course outline.
• These journals should be typed in Microsoft Word (if possible) and saved. Be sure your name, chapter, and journal number are at the top of each one. (If you don't have Word, save your file in .rtf format.) You can submit these via email as an attachment when completed. 
• For Journal #1 (page 13-14), follow the directions. Be sure to complete all three questions.
• For Journal #2 (page 19), follow the directions. Be sure to complete all three questions. The first 2 questions can be a list--#3 has to be in paragraph form.

5.    Post a Welcome Message on Blackboard by 6/18

Login to the Blackboard site  and click on Discussion Board as you did in the last lesson. Click on the Conference titled "Welcome" messages. Read my message and click on Add a New Thread. Type in your answers and click Submit.  Next week, you will be reading other students' responses and completing another posting. For a more detailed guide to posting, click here. Do not work ahead on the postings. Answer them only when directed to do so in the instructions. Many pertain to the reading assignment.
