First, read the draft with a pen or pencil in hand, marking anything
that you think could help the writer during the revision process. Second, write responses to each of the items listed below.
- Write down the one sentence in the
introduction that appears to be the thesis statement for the essay.

essay that is the subject of the paper

clearly related to the main point of the paragraph as expressed in
the first sentence of the paragraph.
- Identify one or more places where the writer might make a smoother
transition from one idea to another.
- Identify one or more sentences that could be better
written.
- What do you think is the best thing about the writer's essay so
far?
- What do you think is the most important way that the essay could
be stronger?
