What is the difference between "farther" and "further"?
Answer:
"Farther" refers to literal distance, something that you can measure in inches, feet, miles, etc., so you would say, "I live farther from the college than you do." "Further" refers to metaphorical distance, something that you cannot measure in inches, feet, miles, etc., so you would say, "I need to go further into the symbolism of this story as I analyze it."
