Paper #2: Review of Sources Paper

For this paper, you will be researching the issues surrounding the term evolution.  Although we have approached the term already, largely in the context of Creationism vs. the Theory of Evolution, your paper need not take on that specific aspect of the debate.  Indeed, your paper should not seek to support or debunk either Creationism or the Theory of Evolution but rather detail or summarize other writers' positions and/or beliefs, and their reasons for holding those positions and/or beliefs, in regard to those issues.

The purpose of this assignment is three-fold: 1) it should inform your classmates and me of in specific detail about what the various positions are and why they have evolved as they have; 2) it should inform us of how relatively credible those sources--or positions--are, and 3) it should give you a larger background of knowledge regarding the subject of evolution.  This will be a modified annotated bibliography on at least ten sources that address evolution, no more than three of which should be from the provided Evolution Debate Page, which is linked from Blackboard under External Links, and at least three of which should come from academic journals.

Each source should be summarized and evaluated independently, following a correct citation as, and in the order that, it would be listed on an MLA Works Cited page.  Chapter 11 in your Field Guide should help you with this, as long as you remember that you are writing an annotated bibliography that is both descriptive and evaluative.  Please use standard English, including complete sentences and proper spelling in your annotations.  There will be no need for a Works Cited on this paper, as the paper, itself, functions as an annotated bibliography.

We will peer review these papers in class, but you may certainly also have your paper read by a reader in the Writing Center on campus, but if you do so, make sure you bring in a copy of this assignment sheet with your draft and remember that the readers in the Center may require a 48-hour turn around time, so plan ahead.  Having your paper at the Writing Center is not a valid excuse for attempting to turn it in late.

Format: This essay should be double-spaced, laser-printed, carefully edited and proofread, and stapled before you turn it in. You should have a heading with your name, my name, the course title and section number, and date on it. You must give the paper number and title a line of its own, and your last name and the page number should appear at the top right of each page, on all pages or after your first page. This paper should be at least three pages in length with one-inch margins.

Your rough draft is due at the beginning of class for peer review on ______________ .
