Department of Political Science

Political Science is a social science concerned with the understanding, investigation and analysis of political institutions and processes.  A strong emphasis is placed on critical thinking about issues both domestic and international, including, but not limited to war and peace, poverty, crime, education, energy, and pollution.  Students of political science can expect to examine our democracy in process at the international, national, state, and local levels and to compare it with other political systems around the world.

Students who choose a major in political science will be trained as critical thinkers, and will develop a thorough understanding of social and governmental institutions that affect their daily lives and the lives of people around the globe. Career opportunities for political science majors include jobs in law and law enforcement, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations, foreign service, the FBI, CIA and other government agencies, the media, and business.
