Tectonics
Problem 2
- a. I gave you the type of plate boundary
in seminar, but in case you have forgotten, refer to Chapters 3 and 4 in the textbook.
- b. Do not complete
- c. Draw a profile on the graph on page 335. Use the annotated figures as a guide.
- c. Why are the earthquakes where they
are? Hint: refer to the textbook.
- d. Measure the angle as indicated. Be
sure to draw arrows on the cross section to show the directions in which the
two plates are moving. Refer to the figures in the textbook (esp.
chapter 4) if you aren't sure.
- e. What feature is present on the ocean
floor? Look on the upper profile on page 335 and the map on page 334.
- f.
- Label the profile. Refer to the
figures in the lab book (p. 328) for this part.
- Measure the arc-trench gap on the map on
page 334. Find the line of volcanoes (use the key on page 333) and
measure the distance from the line of volcanoes to the center of the
trench. The map scale to use is 1cm = 100 km.
