Physical Geology Helpful Lab Hints

Guide to the map of Boothbay, ME

Exercise 11, Problem 3.

Be sure to use the topographic map key on page 95 in your lab book to identify features on the map.

The term "landform" refers to the geologic name given to a specific type of feature.  Refer to lab book figures 11.4, 11.5, and 11.6 and textbook figures 18.25 and 18.29 for the terms to use.

3.b.  Consider the types of landforms created by erosion and deposition; which are most common on this map?

3.c.  Emergent and submergent coasts are described in the lab book on page 200 and in the text book on page 590.

3.d.  These are landforms.  Find one or two examples of each and list them by the map name, OR you may simply label the landforms on the map (i.e. write "sea stack" over a sea stack on the map).
