Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate

The Practical Nurse Program at Illinois Valley Community College qualifies the graduate to take the NCLEX-PN examination and, after successful completion, is qualified to apply for licensure in the state of Illinois or any other state.

If the practical nurse graduate wishes to continue study for the registered nursing program, the curriculum is so structured that the LPN graduate may add to the existing practical nurse curriculum to avoid repetition of courses.

Although the program is designed to be completed in three (3) semesters, it is highly recommended that students complete most, if not all non-nursing courses prior to the start of the first Nursing course. Admission into the LPN program is competitive. It is also recommended that students interested in pursuing this career path should meet with their counselor each semester and attend a Nursing Information Session. Please take the time to look at the Nursing Admission Handbook 2014-2015 for specific details regarding admission to the LPN Program. In order to be considered for the program for the Fall 2015 Admission Cycle a student must file a Letter of Intent with the Admissions Office between November 15, 2014 - February 17, 2015.
