Winners announced for IVCC's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing Contest

The Illinois Valley Community College Diversity Team has announced the winners of the 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing Contest.

First place, Christine Daley of Oglesby, second place, Brandon Miller of Ottawa, and tying for third place, Balie Grady and Dezaray Bowles, both of Ottawa.  The winners will read their winning entries and answer questions from the audience at a public reception Monday, Feb. 24 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in room C-316.

“We were thrilled to have a wide diversity of entries into the contest this year,” said Diversity team chairwoman, Amanda Cook Fesperman.  “There were many excellent entries, but these four represent different genres of writing as well as different reflections on the importance of the Civil Rights movements.”

“We are also pleased students from across our campuses entered the contest, and this is reflected in our winners,” said Cook Fesperman. “Bowles and Grady are students at our IVCC Ottawa Campus, Miller is a nontraditional student on our main campus, and Daley is a high school student enrolled in an E-squared class through St. Bede Academy.”  For information, contact Cook Fesperman at (815) 224-0203.
