Workshop Outline

Although we are offering "Cool Beans Workshop" as a full-day learning event, you may attend partial day or any particular training session as scheduled below.  Our goal is to demonstrate how specific technologies may be effectively integrated into curriculum.

8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.  Hands-On practice exercises using desktop scanners, digital cameras and video camcorders -- Bruce Markwalter, Facilitator of Instructional Technology

This session is designed for faculty and staff interested in borrowing this specialized, college equipment for creating images to be incorporated into their Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and personal Web sites.  We will emphasize repetitive hands-on activities, accompanied with step-by-step instructions, using a variety of traditional and digital devices, including but not limited to 1) the Hewlett-Packard ScanJet desktop digital scanner; 2) Cannon, Sony and Olympus digital cameras and the procedures for downloading images to their U:// drives; and 3) Panasonic, Sony composite VHS and digital video camcorders.  In addition to setup, and proper usage, the workshop participants will be using their sample work in the subsequent sessions of this Friday workshop.

9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  Adobe® Photoshop® 6.0 creating a logo for your Web site and editing basics: e.g., layering, basic transform tools (scale, skew and rotate), cropping, changing modes and changing file formats -- Dawn Lockwood, Adjunct Instructor

12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Capturing, editing and encoding video/audio from a variety of digital and composite sources: e.g., traditional VHS and commercial video tapes, DVD movies and Elmo and Cannon (composite RGB). -- Kim Radek, English Instructor

Using WinTV2000 capture card to capture traditional video.  Encoding with Windows Media Encoder utility and saving edited video/audio to your U:// drive for subsequent insertion into PowerPoint presentation or FrontPage (your Web site).
