1. From either Obama's or McCain's announcement speech, choose one sentence that would be worthy of a quotation. Write that quotation down, using quotation marks and remembering to introduce the quotation and indicate the writer’s/speaker's name.
2. Use ellipsis points to omit a portion from the middle or end of that quotation (without changing the meaning of the quotation). Include a variation of the introduction that you used in #1.
3. Using your introduction from #1 or #2 or a new introduction, quote a single, short phrase from the sentence from #1.
4. Paraphrase the following sentence from McCain's announcement speech: “Our dependence on foreign sources of energy not only harms our environment and economy, it endangers our security.” Again, use an introduction and note the writer’s/speaker's name.
