About the Local History Collection A special collection of materials about the local area (IVCC District) is kept in the new Local History Room. Found here is information on the Illinois and Michigan Canal, the Cherry Mine Disaster, the Starved Rock Murders, the development of the Illinois Valley, and cities of the district. Due to the nature of this material, the local history file is kept locked and the materials do not check out. However, the information may be used with the supervision of library personnel. Copy machines are available.
