                              Online Library Catalog:
                             Interlibrary Loaning of Books


IVCC patrons have access to over 100,000 books and government documents at Jacobs Library.  Patrons also have access to all of the books in the 65 college and university libraries that are part of the CARLI consortium to which we belong.  They can borrow many of these 18 million books by placing a request through our online catalog.  There is no charge for this serve and books are sent to our library via an interstate delivery service provided by the State of Illinois.  Depending on where the item is coming from, it may taken anywhere from 3-4 days to 2 weeks for the books to get to our library.

The libraries in our CARLI consortium are also referred to as I-Share libraries.  The catalog that contains the books of all 65 libraries in our consortium is referred to as the I-Share Catalog.  When you are search the IVCC Online Catalog, you will find a link to the I-Share Catalog at the top of the screen.

Accessing the I-Share Catalog Online
To access the I-Share Catalog Online, go to the library's webpage, click on Library Catalog, and then select I-Share Catalog .   Begin searching.

Requesting
1.  Locate the I-Share Catalog book you wish to request.
2.  Confirm that the item is available from at least one I-Share library.
3.  Click the Request button found on the right side of the tool bar on
     either the top or bottom of the screen.
4.  Fill out the Login form.

5.  At the next screen, click OK.



6.  On the request screen the only information you need to supply is your ID number and then click Submit Request.

7.  The next screen should state:  Your request is now is process.  If you do not receive this message, please contact Jacobs Library at 224-0306 for assistance.

8. Requests from other libraries generally take between 3-10 days to arrive at IVCC.  The library staff makes every effort to contact you by phone when your book arrives, so if your phone number changes, please notify the library.

Managing Requests
After placing a request, the status of the request can be seen in MyAccount.  To access MyAccount, go to https://i-share.carli.illinois.edu/ivc/and select MyAccount or, if you are already using the Online Library Catalog, click on Login. 

The status of your request will be one of the following:
Outstanding – your request is at the lending library waiting for them to download it from the computer.
Pending – the lending library had downloaded your request and is looking for the book.
In transit – the lending library has located the book and has sent it to IVCC.
On Hold –your book has reached IVCC and is waiting for you to pick it up.  The library staff makes every effort to also contact you by phone when your book arrives.

If you want to cancel a request before it is processed, you can do so by checking the box to the left of the title and then clicking Cancel Selected Requests.
