Journalism Opportunities at IVCC
Students can be a part of an award-winning newspaper staff through the IV Leader, IVCC’s campus newspaper, which is published 10 times each school year.
The newspaper copy is written and edited by students. The students also lay out the copy using QuarkXpress and adjust pictures using Adobe Photoshop.
The newspaper provides students with experience that can lead to scholarships at four-year universities or internship opportunities at area newspapers.
In addition, Illinois Valley Community College has established the Trustee Talent Tuition Waiver in Student Life to recognize superior individual achievement in student leaders. Financial assistance also may be offered through journalism scholarships.
For information, contact Lori Cinotte, journalism instructor, at 815-224-0289, or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Illinois Valley Community College has established the Trustee Talent Tuition Waiver in Student Life to recognize superior individual achievement in student leaders. Some of these waivers are awarded each year to freshmen on the newspaper staff.
Students who receive waivers are asked to write stories for each issue and participate in layout of the publication. In addition, students receiving waivers must keep office hours each week in the IV Leader office.
To be considered for a waiver, students should write a 500-word essay detailing their career interests and experience. The student also should include basic information, including name, address, phone number and e-mail address. The essay should be mailed to:
