Tech Prep
Tech Prep, short for technical preparation, is a federal and state funded
educational initiative. The initiative targets the "neglected majority" of
students, the so-called "general" high school students, who are not planning to
attend college and who are not enrolled in vocational programs. The goal of the initiative
was to provide those students with marketable skills for the 21st century. The
U.S. Congress funds the Tech Prep initiative through the Carl D. Perkins Act.
Title III
The Title III Grant, coordinated by Dr. John Allen, will have a significant and measurable
impact on strengthening Illinois Valley Community College. The Grant has been awarded for
the next five years and has been divided into two Activities.
- Activity One, directed by Marianne Dzik, will work to develop and implement new strategies for strengthening the under-prepared student, increasing student retention, and establishing Learning Communities at IVCC.
- Activity Two, directed by Giacomo Leone, will target the development of new occupational programs such as Computer Network Administration (CNAd), Horticulture, Graphic Arts Technology, and Human Services.
