Orientation: Introduction
Welcome!
Welcome to the online orientation for English Composition 1 Online at Illinois Valley Community College!
My name is Randy Rambo, and I'm the instructor of the course. I have taught English courses at Illinois Valley Community College for about twelve years, and I have taught online sections of both ENG 1001 and ENG 1002 for about five years. I'm pleased that you have decided to enroll in English Composition 1 Online!
Reading all of the web pages linked on the Online Orientation page should help you understand important information about the course. This may be the first online course you have taken, so it's important that you understand how the course works and the technology that you need to use to access course material. In addition, you need to become familiar with the course policies.
It should not take long for you to go through all sections of the online orientation, but it will take practice before you feel comfortable using some of the required technology. Reading each of the Online Orientation pages carefully should help give you a good start in the course. Be prepared to spend some time becoming familiar with WebBoard. WebBoard is the conferencing program that we use in the course, and we use the program daily, so it's important that you do your best to understand how WebBoard works early in the semester.
The first graded assignment, a short quiz, covers some of the material presented as part of the Online Orientation.
