Orientation: Help Sheet

This "Help Sheet" provides a brief overview of important information about the course, including the login names and passwords for WebBoard, Test Pilot, and Thinkwave, along with suggestions for succeeding in the course. You might print this page. Of course, if you need help, contact the instructor!

Suggestions for Succeeding in the Course

Be active and curious: spend some time exploring the course web pages.
Practice using WebBoard. It will probably take you a while to get used to WebBoard, so spend time experimenting with WebBoard. Post some practice messages, and review the instructions on the "Using WebBoard" pages.
Be involved in the course. At a minimum, you should enter WebBoard every two or three days. (I check daily to see who has entered WebBoard, and I worry about students who do not enter WebBoard for several days.)
Print the assignment pages and refer to these pages to help you stay current with assignments. Avoid getting behind on assignments.
Make schedules to help you complete the work in the course.
Take charge of your education. If you do not understand something, let me know. I can help.
Contact me if you feel that you need extra help getting started or help completing assignments.
If convenient, consider meeting with me on campus. I would be happy to meet with you in my office to help you with your work in the course.

Login Procedures

College Computers (only if you use IVCC computers for the course)

Login: First three letters of your last name, last four digits of your social security number (no spaces). John Smith, social security number 123456789, would log in as smi6789.
Password: Complete social security number (no spaces, no hyphens) for first log in.

If prompted, you should change the password to one of your choice.

Note: Using the log in above is necessary only if you use the college computers.

WebBoard

Name: Whatever login name you choose.
Password: Whatever password you choose.

TestPilot Online Quizzes and Exercises

User ID: Your seven-digit IVCC student ID number (appearing on your course schedule and posted for you in WebBoard).

Thinkwave Grade Reports

Name: Whatever login name you choose.
Password: Whatever password you choose.

Shortly after the course begins, I will send you your Thinkwave start key and start key password, which you will need to add this course to your Thinkwave account after you have established an account with your own login name and password.
