Differentiated Instruction: So ALL May Learn
The inclusion classroom today offers many challenges: Special needs
students, regular division students, gifted students and students from
low income as well as many others. In this professional development
class taught by Susan Goodale, you will explore ways to differentiate
instruction and still meet standards so all students can learn! Topics
will include: the layered curriculum, tiered assignments, contracting,
compacting, and other ways to differentiate learning by objective,
activities and assessments.
Successful completion qualifies teachers for 6 CPDUs.

Geology of LaSalle County
You, too, may become a rock hound! Find out about the rocks and
fossils commonly found in La Salle County. In the morning you will
learn about geology and the natural history and resources of our area.
In the afternoon, students will drive to Mathiessen Park for a guided
hike led by IVCC instructor, Mike Phillips who also has worked as an
environmental geologist for the Illinois State Geological Survey. Enjoy
the beauty of the Park as you discover its geological wonders. Please
bring a sack lunch and wear hiking clothes.

Instructional Technology for Teachers
Does technology in the classroom intimidate you? Would you like to
become more comfortable with technology in your lessons/classrooms?
If you are hesitant to incorporate technology in your classroom, this
workshop is for you. This hands on friendly technology workshop is
designed for educators at all levels and is taught by an educator. You
will be exposed to over 100 sites for educators. Learn short cuts to
develop rubrics, syllabus, and teacher notes (even Spanish). You will
leave with many instructional uses to apply technology (games,
activities, modules and even lesson plans). Your instructor is a
full time Educational Psychology instructor at IVCC and is the
education program coordinator at the college.

Making Great Slide Shows with PowerPoint
PowerPoint is an easy-to-use tool for creating and delivering
high-quality presentations. Now, you can add pizzazz to your lectures
through the use of this tech-teaching tool! PowerPoint software helps
you to create computer slides, which can be updated, deleted, and
reorganized quickly. Minor errors or typos can be quickly corrected.
Learn how to insert graphics, animation, and sound into your
presentation. A master copy of the slide presentation and audience
copies can easily be printed or e-mailed. Your PowerPoint slide
presentation can be customized to focus on the special needs of any
audience or classroom without harming the original version. The key to
PowerPoint is its flexibility and ease of use. This is a hands-on
workshop.

Online Resources for English Teachers
Discover a whole variety of online resources that can be used to
enhance the teaching and learning of English composition, creative
writing, and literature at the high school level. In this hands-on
workshop, participants will visit selected Web sites on writing and
literature and will examine downloadable computer programs with
educational applications for both teachers and students, with
discussion of how such resources can be used in the classroom.

Seven Ways to be More Creative in the Classroom
Sometimes after teaching the same material repeatedly we get stagnant,
the material becomes boring, and the students reflect this. We
will learn a technique or tool, and then work on ways to use them in
the classroom and curriculum. Techniques to be covered in this
interactive class include: divergent thinking, brain storming,
invitational stems and convergent thinking. Learn how to create an
environment that welcomes new ideas and evaluates their merits

Storytelling and the Reading-Writing Connection
Within you is a storyteller waiting for the right opportunity to tell
your tale. In this workshop you will discover that YOU have the skills
necessary to enrich your classroom with tales both tall and true. Learn
the basics of how to tell a story and present lessons that stimulate
creative writing and a love of reading in the classroom. Teachers
will learn classroom tested lesson plans that help students learn story
form and story grammar through the writing and telling of original
tales. Although this course is designed for K-8 teachers, high school
and college teachers can integrate these storytelling concepts into
their curriculum as well. Your instructor, Brian "Fox" Ellis, is an
internationally renowned storyteller, actor, poet, author, and
educator.
