When
an image is used as a background, it is tiled across the screen.
Tiling
allows for an image to be a smaller file size and download at a faster
speed.
A
browser will tile the image as many times as necessary to fill up the
screen space both vertically and horizontally.
If
the image is as wide as the screen space it will only tile down, and
if an image is as tall as the screen it will only tile across.
It
is important to note that all monitors are not created equal. They come in different sizes and resolutions and all of this
will affect your choice in a graphic size.
Images
load at about 2K per second. The
smaller your background image, the faster it will download.
