Distance Learning Orientation Welcome

Telecourse students are required to enroll in TEL-0000.

As of Fall 2007, Online students are required to enroll in CSP-0002.

If your session is on campus, please report to the room listed on the orientation page for telecourses or online courses.  Your session will take just under an hour.  You need not read the remainder of this message.

If your session is online, you will need to follow these instructions.

Once enrolled in the online orientation, you will be given access to the orientation materials through the Blackboard Learning System. This page conveys information you will need to access and complete the orientation.

  1. On a computer connected to the Internet, go to http://ivcc.blackboard.com
     
  2. Login following the instructions on the screen. The username consists of the first 3 letters of your last name and last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN). Your password is the first three digits of your SSN unless you have already used the Blackboard system and have changed your password.
     
  3. To "enroll" in the course
    1. After Logging in, Click on the Courses Tab.
    2. Select Spring 2008from the Course Catalog listing.
    3. Scroll Down or Search for course
    4. Find appropriate course
      -Telecourse Students:  TelecourseOrientationSpring2008
      -Online Students: Orientation to Distance Learning (month)2008.
    5. Click Enroll > Submit > OK
    6. You will be directed into the course area.
      Detailed instructions for enrolling are available.
       
  4. After the initial 'enrollment', when you log into Blackboard, in the 'My Courses' area of the screen, click on the link to your orientation.
     
  5. Read the announcement section, which tells you how to begin the orientation, and directs you to additional sources of help for using Blackboard.

For spring telecourses, you may begin the orientation as early as January 2, 2008.  All work should be completed by January 25, 2008.

 

For spring 2008 online courses, we are offering online orientations every month.  Please check your schedule to see what orientation you have enrolled in.  The name of the online Blackboard orientation is listed as "Orientation To Distance Learning followed by the month of the orientation you are enrolled in.  You must complete this orientation or you will be dropped from your online course.

The orientation is arranged in three modules. There are supplementary videos that you may choose to watch. The three video segments are each 30 minutes in length.  A frequently asked questions page can answer more questions about the orientations.

Work can be completed in one sitting or you may elect to work on it in chunks. It is your choice.

You should be able to complete the orientation in 1-2 hours.

Shortly after the start of the semester, the Learning Technologies staff will relate your status to your instructor.
