Unable to reply to a message. The area in which to type the message
is missing from the screen. Text box editor appears broken.
This means that the student has disabled ActiveX controls and thus cannot use the "Text Box Editor" control (also known as the WYSIWYG editor). Several possibilities are available to solve this problem:
1. Alternatively, add the Blackboard site to the "Trusted Sites" zone. The trusted site configuration should have ActiveX enabled by default, and would allow you to enable this for only the Blackboard site.
In Internet Explorer,
- Select Tools > Internet Options.
- Select the security tab
- Select Trusted Sites and click the Sites button.
- Type in the IVCC Blackboard address, http://ivcc.blackboard.com.
- Uncheck the 'Require Server Verification' box.
- Click the Add button to move the IVCC Blackboard address to the Websites list.
If this isn't successful,
In Internet Explorer's security settings, make sure the setting for "Run ActiveX Controls and Plugins" is set to enable for the Internet zone.Last effort: If you are using a computer with Vista operating system, consider the alternate browser, Firefox browser.
To make the text boxes appear in Blackboard with Vista/Explorer 7.X, make the following change to Blackboard:
1. Click "Personal Information"
2. Click "Set Visual Text Box Editor Options"
3. Change from '"Available" to "Unavailable."
