Networking will probably be your most valuable tool in your job search. Approximately 75% of all job seekers find current employment through networking. The first step in networking is to brainstorm a list of people that you will talk to, telling them that you are job hunting and the type of position you are looking for. Ask your network to keep you in mind should they hear of a job opportunity. In fact, it is advisable to give the individuals you use as references and any key networking individuals, a copy of your resume so they will have your qualifications at hand.

Consider all of these resource people in your network:

  • Friends
  • Relatives
  • Acquaintances
  • Former Employers
  • Former Co-Workers
  • Teachers
  • Counselors
  • Clergy
  • Neighbors
  • Classmates
  • Bankers
  • Insurance Agents
  • Sales People
  • Medical Professionals
