Frequently Asked Questions
BlackBoard
What is BlackBoard?
BlackBoard is a web based package that allows students access to course resources including an electronic grade book, data files, a discussion board, instructor contact information and much more.
What is my BlackBoard Login?
Username= first three letters of your last name followed by the last four
digits of your social security number.
Password = first three digits of your social security number.
How do I take a quiz or an exam in BlackBoard?
All quizzes and exams are posted in either "Assignments" or in "Course Documents". Quizzes are set so that you can retake them. Quiz questions are randomized so you will probably not always receive the same set of questions. Quizzes are not timed and are set so that they only show you which questions you missed. Exams will be timed and are set for only one attempt. Any timed exam should be submitted several minutes BEFORE the time runs out. If BlackBoard does not have time to grade the exam before the time runs out the exam score will not be posted to your BlackBoard grade book.
What if BlackBoard does not correctly score my quiz or exam?
On occasion you may find that BlackBoard grades one of your responses incorrectly. If you disagree with how one of your questions was graded you should let your instructor know. Tell them the quiz or test name and the question number and what you believe to be the correct answer. Your instructor will look into each request.
How should I use the Discussion Board?
If you were on campus you would have classmates that you could talk with and ask questions about class assignments. Your instructors would like you to use the BlackBoard Discussion Board to ask questions of your online classmates. You will not be graded for your participation in the Discussion Board. The BlackBoard Discussion Board is divided into Forums. Each Forum is for a different topic. Your instructors will set up the Forums and leave it up to you to post most of the questions and answers. The only Forum that your instructor will likely participate in is the one on FAQs. If you have posted a question and are not receiving any responses you should email the instructor with the question you have (or call them) and I they answer it. They would like you to post the answer you received from them to the discussion board question you had posted. It is likely that others may have the same question and you will be helping your classmates.
Can I find student data files for my assignments somewhere in BlackBoard?
There may be a link to your textbook at the "External Links" or "Books" button. You should be able to find a link to "Download Student Files:' on the web page for your textbook. Another place you could check for individual files are the "Course Document" and "Assignments" buttons. Contact your instructor if you are still having problems finding what you need.
