Tentative Course Schedule

TEXTBOOK READING ASSIGNMENTS: The following schedule includes reading assignments. Note the chapter numbers listed (for example, Ch. 1 Jan. 15). You are expected to have read that chapter by class time Jan. 15. 

STORY ASSIGNMENTS, WORKBOOK EXERCISES, IV LEADER ASSIGNMENTS: The following schedule includes story, workbook and IV Leader assignments, including dates for team editing/discussion and deadlines.

News story assignments will not be accepted late for a grade. Newspapers cannot print (and broadcast stations cannot air) stories that come in after the presses start to roll (or after the broadcast).  

Changes to the schedule and additional assignments may be made based on news events or the availability of speakers. Campus news stories may be assigned instead of workbook stories if guest news makers are available.

What is news? How is newswriting different than other writing? ( Ch. 1). Group discussion.
News copy format. 
Assign IV Leader news/sports stories and discuss published string.

Introduce inverted pyramid and news style from AP and appendix. Topics for first style quiz.  ( Ch. 6 and 7) Video
