Exhibit History

“The Flames Caught Us: Cherry Mine 1909,” an exhibit commemorating the centennial of the Cherry Mine Disaster, was created by and first installed at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield and was on display from November 2009 through March 2010. It was released to two volunteers with ties to the Cherry Coal Mine, Peggy Lami of Glen Ellyn and Jack Rooney of Springfield, both Illinois Valley natives, whose goal is to make the exhibit accessible to anyone who wants to view it. It is now being displayed at IVCC in Building E until December 10, 2010.

“The exhibit was so wonderful and the idea of it being temporary and going away was heartbreaking,” said Lami. Visitors experience, “The impact of being at the mine when it happened. It’s almost as though you’re there,” Lami said.
