Notice of Illinois Law Changes: 

The Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) has implemented changes in regards to the training hour requirement for the FSSMC license.

 

This is effective July 1, 2014.

 

Training is reduced from 16 hours to 8 hours inclusive of the exam, and the recertification of a food service sanitation manager must be accomplished by completing an 8 hour training course, inclusive of the exam, and passing an ANSI-CFP accredited exam with a minimum grade of 75%.

 

NEW! Food Service Sanitation [8 Hr. Certification & Renewal Course]

 

Applied Food Service Sanitation is designed to assist the manager or potential manager apply sanitation principles in the operation of a food service establishment. Students will learn to identify the causes of food-borne illness, identify and apply correct procedures for cleaning and sanitizing, recognize problems and potential solutions associated with facility, equipment, and layout. The Illinois code related to food service establishments will be discussed. During the last session students will take the ServSafe Protection Food Manager Certification exam.

 

This class is required in Illinois for certification and renewal of license for food service managers and is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Upon successful completion of the exam, students will submit their Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification Program Request Form and $35 fee payable to the IDPH. Food Service Sanitation Manager licenses are valid for five years.

 

Two textbooks are required for this class: ServSafe Manager, 6th Edition and the Illinois Food Sanitation Code Handbook. Textbooks are available at the IVCC Bookstore.
