The Strategic Teacher: The Right Research-Based Strategies and Approaches at the Right Time

Are you looking for high-impact, research-based strategies and teaching models to transform your students into high-achieving and inspired learners? This course offers a repertoire of strategies, plus the opportunity to gain expertise in a specific model of delivery explored through a professional learning community format. All participants will use a Strategic Dashboard, developed by Strong, Silver, and Panini to direct learning through more than 20 strategies and a teaching model of their choice. At least 6 models of instruction will be provided. Three hours of graduate credit will be received from Quincy University. A textbook will be provided
on the first day of class for $10 per book, payable to the instructor. Beverages and meals will be on your own.

Reaching and Teaching E.L.L. Students in Every Classroom
MSE 5 CI 203
A growing challenge for students and teachers alike is the increase in English Language Learners in all levels of instruction: Kindergarten through Grade 14. The E.L.L. student has the double challenge of learning content and the language, culture and background knowledge, and often social and emotional skills for success. This course will address more than 40 strategies to use with E.L.L. students in diverse content areas and at diverse grade levels. Participants will come away with tools to scaffold instruction, differentiate instruction, teach content, and address the new Common Core Learning Standards in the regular division classroom. The teaching strategies can also be used to scaffold instruction for students with special needs or those who might find school challenging.
Three hours of graduate credit will be received from Quincy University.
The book to accompany this class will be available at the IVCC Bookstore.
