Food Service Sanitation

Food Service Sanitation [15 hour course]
Applied Food Service Sanitation is designed to assist the manager or potential manager apply sanitation principles in the operation of a food service establishment. Students will learn to identify the causes of food-borne illness, identify and apply correct procedures for cleaning and sanitizing, recognize problems and potential solutions associated with facility, equipment, and layout. The Illinois code related to food service establishments will be discussed. During the last session students will take the Illinois Food Service Certification exam. This class is required for certification as a food service manager.
Students receive 1 hour of college credit for successful completion of this course. Two textbooks are required for this class: ServSafe Essentials, 6th Edition and the Illinois Food Sanitation Code Handbook.
Textbooks are available at the IVCC Bookstore.

Food Service Sanitation Refresher [5 hour course]
This refresher course fulfills the Food Sanitation Recertification requirements as adopted by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Any person currently holding a Food Service Sanitation Manager’s License MUST take an approved recertification course in order to renew his/her license. This class must be taken before the license expires. Please bring your Food Sanitation Certificate Card and a photo I.D. to the first class. CEU: .5
