Job Opportunities

There is a tremendous shortage of skilled Automotive Technicians and this shortage will continue well into the future.  Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the automotive Repair Industry will require 35,000 new technicians annually through 2010. Individuals without formal training beyond high school will face stiff competition for entry-level jobs and will find it difficult to advance or upgrade their position. Job opportunities in automotive repair are expected to be plentiful for those who have completed an A.A.S. Degree or a Certificate in Automotive Technology.

Students Graduating from Illinois Valley Community College's Automotive Technology Program have been placed in dealerships and independent repair shops throughout the Illinois valley area. In Illinois the average wage for an entry-level technician is $20,500 annually. Experienced technicians in Illinois average wage is $44,387 and as the complexity of vehicles increases so are the wages.
